1. When buying a photo on canvas print it is important to look for signs of quality. With more and more “no frills” companies now in the market, (many can now be found on eBay) the standard of quality that can be expected when buying a print online nowadays is fairly low.
High-quality canvas prints should only be made using 4 piece pine stretcher bars and 100% cotton canvas. Many cheaper companies out there attempt to cut costs by using a paper type material and cheap balsa wood type frames. Creating a canvas in this way does not allow for the canvas to be re-stretched over time and as soon as the room temperature has caused your canvas to sag, there is no way to repair your print.
2. Select your image carefully. When choosing an image to be printed onto canvas, always try to select a high resolution image. Although low resolution images can be used (and in many cases to great effect) a high resolution image will appear crisp and vibrant when printed professionally onto the smooth surface of the canvas.
3. Beware of companies promising the earth for £15 and on the other hand also beware of companies claiming to sell high quality photo on canvas prints but at a very high price tag. Try to strike up in your mind the balance between price and the quality of the product and remember, if you get it right, a high-quality canvas print will last a lifetime.
